Need bags

Posted by Jim and Mark on March 24th, 2010

I sent an infrequent visitor over to the mailbox today to find a bag, and she said it was empty. I gave her one of mine.

Whoever has a source for these (anyone still take the newspaper?), please bring some more!

(She hung it on the fence, but I didn’t feel like narcing on her after she agreed to pick up the stuff in the first place. And it was black, so maybe the MAC people didn’t spot it so easily on the black fence. If it’s still there tomorrow, I’ll take it with me.)

Spring Cleanup, 2010

Posted by Jim and Mark on March 24th, 2010

I’m organizing a volunteer cleanup of the poop in the park. Saturday, April 3, noon to 3pm. (Rain date, Saturday April 10.) Bring: work gloves, tools (shovel, rake, hoe, dustpan, etc.), garbage bags. Extra credit: Someone bring donuts, coffee, and cups. I will supply: contractor bags, paper towels, vinyl gloves, hand sanitizer.

Last year Now Boarding graciously agreed to let us put the waste in their dumpster. Let’s hope they can be asked to do so again. Volunteers with pickup trucks and other places to take the stuff are still very welcome.

Just like last year, most of the poop that vanished into and under the snow is actually pretty well broken down, but new material continues to arrive (shame!) so there will still be something to do.

Week of March 15

Posted by Devon & Chaz on March 19th, 2010

As spring thaws go, this has been a very easy one.

Unlike past years, when the melted snowpack created huge soupy areas on the main grounds adjacent to the parking lot, it’s now completely dry, thanks to a slow thaw during our recent rains.

There may be a few soft, muddy areas near the marsh, but by and large, the property is dry as of yesterday.

If you want to keep your dog clean, avoid the area nearest the corner gate. The ground cover there is completely worn off, revealing soft dirt that some dogs would not be able to resist rolling in.

Week of March 7

Posted by Devon & Chaz on March 7th, 2010

The spring melt is on its way. Balmy afternoon temperatures are creating huge puddles by the main gate and field adjacent to the MAC building parking lot.

Your best bet for staying dry is to hit the park first thing in the morning, when overnight temps have refrozen the icy patches. If you come when it’s still frozen, though, watch  your step. It’s glassy as a skating rink, especially by the main gate.

The back trails were still passable as of today, but I expect in a few more days, the low-lying areas next to the marsh will be soupy.

The ice on the lake is probably no longer safe to walk on. Please use good judgment out there.

jumping dogs

Posted by lorettask on February 16th, 2010

Jumping dogs can be hazardous.  It’s getting more

common.  If I were still recuperating from my surgery

I would have been knocked down.  Owners, PLEASE

monitor & control your dogs.  Park etiquette suggests

well mannered dogs & people.

Now one might suggest I was at fault.  Our behavior is

no different, walking the circuit, staying on the

perimeter, no treats in the pockets…it’s the inattentive

owners & untrained dogs.

Thanks much for letting me spout!

Looking for the woman who was making a book on photographing dogs

Posted by Genevieve on January 21st, 2010

Hello. A few years ago there was a woman at the dog park photographing dogs for a book she was making about how to photograph dogs. I think this was in about 2005, but I’m not sure. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this. I would like to purchase that book, as I think she might have included a photo of one of my dogs or, at least, she was planning to. Thank you.
