As spring thaws go, this has been a very easy one.

Unlike past years, when the melted snowpack created huge soupy areas on the main grounds adjacent to the parking lot, it’s now completely dry, thanks to a slow thaw during our recent rains.

There may be a few soft, muddy areas near the marsh, but by and large, the property is dry as of yesterday.

If you want to keep your dog clean, avoid the area nearest the corner gate. The ground cover there is completely worn off, revealing soft dirt that some dogs would not be able to resist rolling in.

The spring melt is on its way. Balmy afternoon temperatures are creating huge puddles by the main gate and field adjacent to the MAC building parking lot.

Your best bet for staying dry is to hit the park first thing in the morning, when overnight temps have refrozen the icy patches. If you come when it’s still frozen, though, watch your step. It’s glassy as a skating rink, especially by the main gate.

The back trails were still passable as of today, but I expect in a few more days, the low-lying areas next to the marsh will be soupy.

The ice on the lake is probably no longer safe to walk on. Please use good judgment out there.

What a beautiful winter wonderland! The frozen lake allows many long trails (thanks, trail blazers) that provide a great workout. Thanks to all who are pickup poop. Unfortunately it is looking rather typical for this time of year. The poop is hard to pick up when it is left and has time to freeze to the snow. Any cleanup effort is appreciated. Thank you

Beautiful day at the park today, after too many gloomy, wet days this week. Small puddles here and there on the main property, but beware the marsh. There are black, mucky areas just inside the cattails–out of an owner’s sight, but the tantalizing stench can easily lure in a dog for a satisfying dip. (I’m looking at you, Chaz.)

little black bugs all over in the lower part of the park!!! Very bothersome, in your nose, mouth, etc.. They don’t appear to bother the dogs tho! Better for a few weeks to stick to the upper areas where there’s better breezes Good luck, Loretta & Lucky

2007 Perimeter Fence Improvements

MAC Contract No. 106 1 205
This project is the first of a multi-year program to improve the security fence at the Minneapolis-St. Paul
International Airport. The project provides for the installation of security cable within portions of the existing
fence line to minimize the threat of vehicle intrusions.
Use caution! There may be workers and openings in the fence. Also, They were working last Saturday.

Thanks to last week’s snowfall, conditions are perfect again at the dog park. The snowpack is walkable and still relatively dry and fluffy. Today is sunny and temperatures are near 30, so get out and enjoy the winter we have left!

Week of February 9

Very poor conditions today. The melting snowpack has turned into glossy ice so slick even the dogs are wiping out on it. You’ll want your YakTrax today for sure.

There are patches of exposed grass here and there. Best place to throw a ball is at the top of the hill by the runway.

Keep your fingers crossed for either more snow or a quicker thaw, because this stuff is hard to deal with!

Super Icy – Use caution

The warm weather has left us with extremely icy conditions. A view from the top of the hill. The ice is almost everywhere. Lower half is better.

If you don’t mind the cold, conditions are perfect at the park right now. Snow is powdery, making for decent traction, and still shallow enough for easy walking. The ground is virtually covered with relatively new snow, so no matter how much wrestling and rolling around your dog may do, he’ll still be clean when you take him home.
