Spring Cleanup 2009

I’m organizing a volunteer cleanup of the poop in the park. Saturday, April 11, noon to 3pm. (Was to be Sunday, April 5, but called on account of the weather.) Bring: work gloves, tools (shovel, rake, hoe, dustpan, etc.), garbage bags. Extra credit: Someone bring donuts, coffee, and cups. I will supply: contractor bags, paper towels, vinyl gloves, hand sanitizer.

Now Boarding has graciously agreed to let us put the waste in their dumpster, but (a) we need to get it there, and (b) their dumpster is not gigantic, so volunteers with pickup trucks and other places to take the stuff are still very welcome.

Most of the poop that vanished into and under the snow is actually pretty well broken down, but new material continues to arrive (shame!) so there will still be something to do.

I got some styrofoam (sorry) coffee cups; is 50 enuf?

We are new to the park as of 2/09. It has been a great experience for us, helping my new adopted dog be more confident, outgoing & social. YEA! But I fear I have created a “monster” as now she dislikes walking on the leash & wants so much to run at the park!

I will come to help support this wonderful gem in the middle of the city.

Hi Jim, Brian here a frequent visitor at the unofficial park. I helped last year and we hauled 100’s of pounds of poop out of the park.
I still have a new box of bigger trash bags from last year. I was thinking I would also bring some boxes of rubber gloves and plastic bag for poop collection. I have a dumpster I can put some poop in. Do you know of anything else that would be helpful.

I will bring some cool drinks and water for the dogs.

Jim, Just looked at the forcast and I did not like it. Hopefully it will stay south but, if it rain/snow at 36 degs….. Yikes it may be worth reduced effort 4/5 and hoping for better weather on the 11th

The weather promises to be absolutely frightful: snow likely at 70% (though only half an inch in the latest forecast), north wind 16-18mph and a high of 33. Not ideal.

I declare a postponement until Saturday, April 11. I’ll swing by tomorrow to let people know, but I expect it will be pretty lonely.
