I was at the park yesterday and one day last week, after a long absence. There are some treacherous holes that could break one’s leg or ankle if you fell in one of them. The main ones I saw were on the hillside going down toward the lower level on the north end of the park. Watch out. I fell. I am lucky I didn’t get hurt. Stay on the paths.

The holes on the hillside going down toward the lower level on the north end of the park are caused mainly by settling. This area was swamp and was filled in (very poorly) with concrete and other junk (look in the groves of trees to see tons of it). It has been shifting and settling for years. The worst thing is the holes are hard to detect because the dirt just disappears down in the ground and the grass is right up to the edge. Even the big holes can be hard to detect with the longer grass.
The lower level on the south end there are mounds of dirt. These are caused by the ground squirrels or gophers. If you watch closely you can see the critters in the distance or on the other side of the fence. They will go underground as you approach. The dogs just love the fresh scents and to try and get them by digging. These holes are easy to see by all the soft dirt piled up around the hole.
Most the other holes around the park are caused by the dogs. They are the typical dog hole. The holes vary in size and have the dirt thinly spread two to three feet around the hole. This usually kills the surrounding grass and makes them easier to see.
MAC has in the past come in with heavy equipment and filled and leveled the park. It is starting to get bad again. I do not have any idea when they may do this again.
I am really surprised that more people and dogs have not been hurt by the holes.
Are they a big enough threat to take action on? Anyone have access to a load of dirt and wheelbarrows?
Something to say?

Yes! These holes are very easy to miss if you’re not paying close attention. Very deep and dangerous! Watch out for yourself and your dogs! I wonder what these are from? Rodents? Dogs digging?
