My dog was attacked by two large, unfortunately due to a bad rap already, rotts. There was also a third large standard poodle involved but I don’t think he was being agressive, just confused and trying to still play. Anyways I ended up having to sit on top of my dog and swing at the two large rotts. Not the smartest thing I have ever done but I did not know how else to break it up. Yelling and screaming did nothing and the women had absolutely no idea how to control her 2 large dogs. One even had a leash still on the whole time she was at the park so maybe she thought she would need it? I am extremely afraid to go back to the park now and don’t want to be. I think that owners who, in extreme situations, will not be able to phsyically control their dogs, should not be allowed to bring them to the park. This woman’s 2 dogs outweighed her by at least 150 pounds-I just don’t think that is safe-especially with unneuteured males. I do accept the fact that dogs will be dogs and fights will happen-I just don’t ever want to feel so helpless again in my life. Any advice? Comments?

did anyone talk to the lady?? what kind of car does she drive?? a name??the dogs names? maybe a laminate on the gates warning of these dogs and its clueless owner…i have started to bring my camera just in case….i am sure a warning with the ladies name and dogs names might keep them away….or at least raise awareness
Thanks for the advice. I did not get her name or dogs name. I was too stunned at what had happened and left immediately. I have been going to the dog park religiously for a year, but usually during the week, and I just never expected that to happen. I will never go back on a weekend so I hopefully will never see this woman and I also hope that people read this and just keep your dog close in case something happens again. She was a small framed woman with long brown hair in mid 40’s with 2 large rottweilers-sorry I have no other info. Thanks for the advice on how to handle dog fights though-realistically I know it could happen again but hopefully I will more prepared to ensure the safety of both dogs and myself.
I’m new to the airport dog park so this email is more than a little scary to read!! I’ve been to Minnehaha and Battle Creek but I like the airport dog park because it allows my 1 year old, 70+ pound “puppy” to run. He is very friendly and well socailized and will approach and play with any and all dogs. We go mostly on the week-ends. Did the woman take responsibilty for her dogs behavior? Was your dog hurt? Does this kind of thing happen often at this park?
Most of the bad fights I hear about are on the weekends. During the week it is normally the same dogs and same owners. All of the weekday dogs from my perspective are well behaved and the owners take responsibility if fights do break out. This may just be due to the fact that when I go during the week I walk around with the same people and same dogs so there is less new dog interactions-maybe I am just sheltered during the week? My dog was hurt but not badly, she had some scrapes and also had to take anti biotics for the large open wound on her butt. The thing about the owner is that she was saying “sorry” while screaming at her dogs and trying to hold on to them so I am not angry at that. It just terrifies me that she could not control the 2 dogs once she finally got them in her grasp. They were pulling her over trying to get back to attacking my dog. I had to walk quickly out of the park before they got loose again from her-that is what scares me. Just be cautious when you go and try to keep an eye on the dog/owner interactions and stay away from dogs that don’t listen to their owners. The airport dog park is a great place…I just hope someday I will be ready to go back because I know my dog is probably ready!
FYI-I live in between the Falls dogpark and Airport dog park so if anyone wants to come and have a playdate with my dog email me. She is 14 months old, 70 pounds, and LOVES to play with any size/type of dog. She is highly socialized and like wrestling alot!
I am a weekend dog parker, due to work… and I never have issues, except for that one day when that lady showed up. It is the same lady and one of the dogs name is Heinrick… I know this becasue she was yelling his name over an over agian as he was trying to attack my friends dog. As mentioned I did grab their necks and push them away, and it worked. She does not have control over them and has no business bringing them into the park.
Do not be afraid to come on the weekend it is the same people too. I see a lot of the same dogs and there have been no issues. My issue is I have 3 dogs and they play very loud and sound like they are fighting.
Something to say?

I do believe I have run into these Rot’s, and the lady clearly can not control them, if these are the ones. I will give you one suggestion for them. If you stand up and look at big as possible and try and do a “Cesar Milan” if you have ever seen him. Try and grab/bite the necks of these dogs and yell “No”. Possibly will pop them out of there aggressiveness. I did this to them and they seemed to respond a bit. I do agree they are very scary and dominant and do NOT belong at a dog park. I guess I would try and steer clear of them. I took my 3 dogs walked away from these dogs, continuing to look big and yelling no. Not the best advice, but it may help for next time.
