At the park last evening I met a beautiful 11-year-old Rottie with a permanent limp. Her owner told me that her dog was injured at the airport dog park last year when she ran across a hole and twisted her foreleg in it, tearing a tendon. Because of her age, the veterinarians did not recommend surgery, and now this beautiful girl must live out her life in chronic pain.
There are a number of holes scattered around the grounds–some from dogs digging, others from burrowing animals. Many are almost impossible to see due to the grass cover. I stepped in one earlier this summer and pulled my Achilles tendon. Ouch!
But I worry more for my dog as he’s bounding across the grass. I know he’s not watching his footing. It would be so easy for him to be injured as the Rottie girl was.
Is there anything we can do about this as a community? Should we have a hole-filling day periodically, similar to our spring cleanup?
All ideas are welcome! Please pipe up.Â

I’d be happy to meet up and fill some holes. Because of the size of the property, it would be handy if we first flagged the significant holes and then had a golf cart (or whatever) pulling a trailer with dirt. Several of us could step out and shovel the holes full.
I’ll help flagging at the very least… the shoveling I’ll leave to the more sturdy of body.
