Thank you to everyone who pitched in today with the Spring Cleanup. It was a roaring success! We collected and waved goodbye to 5-6 contractor bags of poop and litter, and some truly dangerous items were discovered and removed.
Additionally, 70 people and 35 dogs signed the thank you card for the MAC, and we collected about $70 for an employee gift. That’s awesome!
I want to give a special shout-out and thanks to the dad and mom of Shiloh, the ball-lovin’ German Shepherd. I understand they went around the park with a shovel a week ago and hauled away a lot of shit! That put us in a great position to give the park a deep clean today. Unfortunately, as is often the case, I know the dog’s name but not the owner’s. So, if you read this, please raise a hand and identify yourself so we can thank you by name!Â
I also want to thank Carol, mom to fox terrier Molly and Bailey the black cocker spaniel. She was my partner in organizing the event and really helped pull things together. Thanks, Carol!
Everyone who participated should pat themselves on the back for a job well done. A special thanks to the people who brought coffee, donuts, granola bars, bags, rubber gloves and hand sanitizer (that’s good thinking!).
The park is in great shape now as we go into the spring and summer months. Eventually, we’ll need to have another cleanup, and when we do, there are leftover bags and rubber gloves for that event. When it’s time for another cleanup (I think we’ll all know by the state of our shoes), I’ll hand off these surplus supplies to the next organizer (Carol and I can’t have all the fun!).
Lastly, one of the dangerous items that was dragged out of the woods is a bent and rusty garage door track. We didn’t have the means for disposing of it, so if anyone has access to a pickup truck and dumpster and would be so kind as to make this debris disappear, you’ll find it laying alongside the fence at the corner of the park, where we had the table set up. Thank you in advance!
I’ll post again when I know more about our MAC employee gift and when we will be able to present it to them.
Cheers,
Devon

Wonderful work, really wonderful. It’ s nice to see people taking responsibility for taking care of the park so that we don’t lose access to it. Kudos to you!
I haven’t been visiting the site too often, so I’ve just noticed the part about having collected $$ for a thank-you for MAC. Seeing as they are a “government entity” they may be restricted as to whether or not they can accept gifts from the “public”. If that’s the case, perhaps the $$ could be used to fund clean-up efforts on a regular basis going forward?
