I’m an occasional user of the “dog park” and was tipped off to this site by a friend of mine. I’ve read the postings and have a few comments:
- I appreciate that regular users are talking about the poop management issue and that, for the most part, it seems the majority of users see that management as their responsibility. I’d like to echo that sentiment – when MAC first agreed to allow their green space to be used as a “dog park” they made clear that dog owners were to be responsible for cleaning up after their dogs. MAC doesn’t have to let anyone use their green space – we’re not entitled to it, so it behooves us to fulfill our part of the deal by cleaning up after our dogs. I understand it’s not always fun to have to carry home dog poop but MAC does not have to provide trash cans for us. They’re doing us a favor by letting us use their green space – we should return the favor by cleaning up after our dogs and disposing of our trash properly and off-site.Â
- Regarding the question about deicing fluids running to Mother Lake: I checked (you can call MAC) and MAC owns two retention ponds on the more southerly side of the airport property – you can see one of them as you’re heading west on Hwy 5 toward the Mall of America. The retention ponds are part of MAC’s system for “containing and remediating spills” before they can get to the river. Mother Lake is not a retention pond and is not used to contain spills – deicing fluids do not run to Mother Lake.Â

Stick, thanks for that info!
