MAC’s Warning

Posted by Brian, Jessie, Bear and Tootsie on August 8th, 2010

According to park patrons there was a note posted from MAC about the parks condition. The note said that they would close the area and post no trespassing signs if we don’t follow their request.

To sum it up they don’t want to see our stuff. This includes our poop bag dispenser, lost & found (both removed) and posting signs on the fence. Somehow the Airport Dog Parks signs are still there. In addition, no poop bags/water jugs (hanging or lying around on fence or trees), bowls, lawn furniture or any modifications to the gates.

See Airport Dog Park Info page for more information about the park and MAC’s requests. Please share this with other patrons of the park.

Pippin

Posted by Devon & Chaz on July 31st, 2010

Just a note to update our dog park pals…

My little guy Pippin underwent emergency surgery three days ago to repair a diaphragmatic hernia. I’m not sure how the injury happened–possibly a couple weeks ago at the dog park when he collided hard with Chaz.

This week, though, Pippin got super stressed out during a toenail clipping and grooming, and later started to vomit, became extremely lethargic and was in obvious great pain. I took him to the U of M in the middle of the night. Apparently all the air he gulped during his stressful reaction to the grooming caused his stomach and part of his spleen to pass through a tear in his diaphragm and into his chest cavity.

The damage was repaired and his prognosis is good. He still has a gastric tube through his side in case they need to empty his stomach. He will have that removed in 10-14 days. He’s groggy most of the time due to pain meds, but that’s good, because he needs to avoid any activity that might compromise the repair to the diaphragm.

Anyway, we’re looking forward to having him back to normal and chasing balls at the dog park again. But I’ll probably throw two balls from now on so Chaz and Pippin don’t crash into each other any more going after the same ball.

Tree Removal

Posted by Barbarah on June 25th, 2010

A quick little note for our dog park friends. We removed a couple of trees down the hill from the GO. A couple of our guests questioned our crew ast to why we were cutting down the trees. The MAC is responsible for removing approach and departure path obstructions, and unfortunately, those trees had grown into the runway 12R-30L protected area. We are also removing some trees from the northwest corner of Mother’s Lake (near Cedar and Xtown) and from an area near the Ft. Snelling Officer’s Club. So please know we are simply following FAA rules.

What’s all the work on the south side of the park next to the runway?

Don’t worry–they’re not expanding the runway! :)   They’re just removing some trees in order to comply with regulations regarding high objects near the flight path.

When I talked with them this morning, they said they’d taken all the trees that they had planned to, so the rest of this stand of trees will remain intact.

Leg Hold Traps ? !

I spoke to an older gentleman tonight that indicated there were leg hold traps in the swamp. Has anyone else heard this? Can anyone verify this?

A Note from The MAC

Posted by Barbarah on April 15th, 2010

“Pet owners are reminded to please monitor their pet’s activities and prevent them from digging around and under airport fences.  Access to the airport would expose a pet to a hazardous and potentially deadly environment.  In addition, waste bags have been observed strewn along 28th Avenue.  The MAC does not provide waste receptacles.  Therefore, we require dog owners to clean-up after their pet and transport waste off-site.  We thank you in advance for your cooperation in complying with our rules, thus ensuring that the area will continue to be available to our four-legged guests and their owners.”

Snakes

I noticed several baby snakes around the park. They are about 12″ long and a little bigger around than a pencil. Last year’s babies are about twice that size.

These are located on the lower south side of the park. They are on the old fence near the landing lights

Has anyone done a count of how many steps (or mile) it is around the perimeter of the park? You know…trying to get 10,000 steps daily while walking the dog! Thanks much!
